My mind was debating whether to get a digicam (Ricoh) as a sub for my dslr or lens but finally decided to get the latter since I was longing to have a 35mm lens since long ago. My 50/1.8d is a good lens but it’s too cumbersome to just manual focus everytime I shoot. There are situations that I have to use AF especially shooting moving objects. I chose this 35/1.8g prime lens since 50/1.8d wasn’t wide enough and just manual focus.
To those who didn’t know, D-lenses don’t have built-in motors thus relying on camera bodies with built-in motors like Nikon D90, D7000, D300, D700, etc. G-lenses do have built-in motors that’s why it’s a bit bulkier and heavier than their counterparts and it enables DX cameras (no AF motor built-in on their bodies like D40, D40x, D60, D3000, D5000, etc. except for few models like the D90) to auto-focus since there’s a AF motor built-in on the lens.
To cut it short, G-lenses [ex: AF-S DX Nikkor 35mm f1.8G] = lens suitable for DX cameras. D-lenses [ex: AF Nikkor 50mm f1.8D] = lens suitable for FX cameras.
Just search the internet if the explanation is insufficient.
